Course Description:

Communication training or communication skills training refers to various types of training, to develop the necessary skills for communication. Effective communication is vital for the success in various situations. Individuals undergo communications training to develop and improve communication skills related to various roles in organizations.



Course Objectives:

In organizations, it is necessary to communicate with different sub-groups and overcome difficulties in effective communication. Since each sub-group has a unique sub-culture, an effective communications trainer may assist organizational members in improving communications between sub-groups of the organization. It is necessary to ensure that communications between individuals the various sub-cultures serve to meet the mission and goals of the organization. Communications training can assist leaders to develop the ability to perceive how various individuals and subgroups relate to each other and make appropriate interventions.



Learning objectives:

Afer completion of this course:

- You will be heard the way you want to be heard;

- You are able to resolve problems and conflicts between you and customers regardless of the communication style used by the customer;

- You will understand what others really mean, regardless of the communication style they use;

- You are able to develop an action plan to improve your communication skills

Part 1: Introduction communication

Part 2: History of communication

Part 3: Ways of communication

Part 4: Types of Customers 

Part 5: Effective Communication (active listening, assertiveness and successfull communication)

Part 6: Communication during conflict situations



Course Duration:

The course programme shall consist of two days and starts at 9.00 till 16.00. Additional breaks may be taken as needed. The course programme will be as follows:


Day 1

09.00 – 10.30 Start Part 1 and 2

10.30 – 10.45 Coffee Break

10.45 – 12.00 Continue Part 2

12.00 – 12.45 Lunch Break (30 to 45 minutes depending on the local needs)

12.45 – 14.30 Start Part 3

14.30 – 14.45 Coffee Break

14.45 – 16.00 Continue Part 3


Day 2

09.00 – 10.30 Start Part 4

10.30 – 10.45 Coffee Break

10.45 – 12.00 Start Part 5

We will provide all the required resources and equipment that is needed for this course.

Hardware/Software requirements and Browser information


Hardware requirements:

We recommend to bring a laptop or tablet with WiFi connection. During the course, we will visit several websites and at the end of the course you complete an online questionnaire.


Software requirements:

No additional software requirements are applicable.


Browser information:

A reliable computer or tablet with Wifi internet connection and internet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Firefox) are required.

Instructor credentials:

For this course we use multiple instructors. All have a solid background in communications. All instructors involved have each over 10 years of relevant experience and are recognized as “Subject Matter Expert”. They will be able to draw upon their wealth of experience to explain details on communication ineffciencies, via actual case studies.

Assessment and Grading


Testing procedure:

Students will not receive an examination.


Grading procedure:

In order to receive a Certificate of Course Completion, the student needs to attend the full course.




Assignments and Participation


Assignments and Projects:

In this course, several assignments are included for which forms have been developed. As support, there are checklists completed that may be used during the workshop and in practice as a reminder tool.


Class Participation:

Students must participate in all interactive aspects of the course. Students are expected to communicate with instructor as a learning resource and actively participate in discussions.



Course Ground Rules


Participation is required, expected to communicate with other students in team projects, learn how to navigate in the learning environment system, keep abreast of course announcements, use the student e-mail address opposed to a personal e-mail address. Address technical problems immediately and observe course netiquette at all times.  



Communication guidelines



  • Always include a subject line.
  • Select your wordings in the e-mail carefully. Use of emoticons can help to include the correct emotion in the message.
  • Use standard fonts
  • Do not send large attachments
  • Special formatting such as centring, audio messaging, tables, html, etc. should be avoided as much as possible.
  • Respect the privacy of other students or class members


Discussion Groups:

  • Review the discussion threads thoroughly before entering the discussion.
  • Try to maintain threads by using the reply button, instead of starting a new topic
  • Do not make insulting or inflammatory statements to other members of the discussion group. Be respectful of other's ideas
  • Be patient and read the comments of other group members thoroughly before entering your remarks
  • Be cooperative with group leaders in completing assigned tasks
  • Be positive and constructive in group discussions
  • Respond in timely manner



  • Introduce yourself in the chat session
  • Be polite. Choose words carefully. Do not use derogatory statements.
  • Be concise in responding in the chat session
  • Be prepared to open the chat session at the schedules time
