Course Information


Course Description:

The course will give you an insight in the usefulness, purpose and implementation of internal audits. 



Course Objectives:

This course aims to provide (potential) internal auditors with practical understanding of their roles, responsibilities and duties as an auditor. In addition, participants will gain knowledge and skills to effectively prepare, conduct and report the results of an internal audit.



Learning objectives:

After completion of this course you will have the following



- You will be able to describe the purpose of a QMS

- You know and understand QMS standards

- You understand the system of audits

- You know the role of an auditor to plan, conduct, report and follow-up on a QMS audit in, accordance with the applicable standard(s) and regulation(s)



- You will be able to plan, conduct, report and follow-up on an audit of a QMS to establish conformity (or otherwise) with the applicable standard(s) and regulation(s).




Regulatory requirement compliance:

The internal audit program training is based on the ISO 19011 standard for integrated QHSE (quality, health, safety and environment) audits.





A basic understanding of one or more relevant standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001) is recommended.




Course Topics an Duration

The course programme shall consist of two days and starts at 9.00 till 16.00. Additional breaks may be taken as needed. The course programme will be as follows:


Day 1: 09.00 - 16.00 Auditor Training (theory)


Part 1: Basics of auditing

Part 2: Audit preparation and planning

Part 3: Conducting the audit

Part 4: Drafting of the audit report

Part 5: Audit follow-up and closing

Part 6  Your own corporate audit scheme


Day 2: 09.00 - 16.00 Audit Workshop (practical)


Part 1: Preparing the audit

Part 2: Conducting the audit 

Part 3: Writing the audit report

Part 4: Audit Closing

Part 5: Final examination

We will provide all the required resources and equipment that is needed for this course.

Hardware/Software requirements and Browser information


Hardware requirements:

We recommend to bring a laptop or tablet with WiFi connection. During the course, we will visit the EASA website regularly and at the end of the course you will perform an online examination.


Software requirements:

No additional software requirements are applicable.


Browser information:

A reliable computer or tablet with Wifi internet connection and internet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Firefox) are required.



Instructor information


Instructor credentials:

Danny Goergen has over 10 years of experience in the aviation industry. After several years working as an aircraft mechanic, he graduated as Bachelor in Aviation Engineering and started as a process engineer in an EASA Part 145 approved component repair shop. 


Within this organisation he had two EASA Form 4 positions as Technical Manager and Quality Assurance Manager. In this last position he developed himself as an qualified auditor, performing many internal system & product audits and external audits at suppliers and subcontractors.  


At the moment Mr. Danny Goergen is, on behalf of HACE, active in several independant auditor positions. One of his clients is the Part 147 approved Aviation Competence Centre (ACC), where he holds the EASA form 4 position of Quality Assurance Manager and exclusive internal auditor.

Assessment and Grading


Testing procedure:

Students will need to go through examination by online testing.


Grading procedure:

In order to receive a Certificate of Course Completion, the student needs to attend the full course and complete the examination with >75% score. 




Assignments and Participation


Assignments and Projects:

In this course several workshop elements are included. Students need to develop their own audit planning, audit checklist and audit forms. Eventually they will perform an actual audit, using these documents. 


Class Participation:

Students must participate in all interactive aspects of the course. Students are expected to communicate with the instructor as a learning resource and actively participate in discussions



Course Ground Rules


Participation is required, expected to communicate with other students in team projects, learn how to navigate in the learning environment system, keep abreast of course announcements, use the student e-mail address opposed to a personal e-mail address. Address technical problems immediately and observe course netiquette at all times. 



Communication guidelines



  • Always include a subject line.
  • Select your wordings in the e-mail carefully. Use of emoticons can help to include the correct emotion in the message.
  • Use standard fonts
  • Do not send large attachments
  • Special formatting such as centring, audio messaging, tables, html, etc. should be avoided as much as possible.
  • Respect the privacy of other students or class members


Discussion Groups:

  • Review the discussion threads thoroughly before entering the discussion.
  • Try to maintain threads by using the reply button, instead of starting a new topic
  • Do not make insulting or inflammatory statements to other members of the discussion group. Be respectful of other's ideas
  • Be patient and read the comments of other group members thoroughly before entering your remarks
  • Be cooperative with group leaders in completing assigned tasks
  • Be positive and constructive in group discussions
  • Respond in timely manner



  • Introduce yourself in the chat session
  • Be polite. Choose words carefully. Do not use derogatory statements.
  • Be concise in responding in the chat session
  • Be prepared to open the chat session at the schedules time
