Course Information

 

Course Description:

This course covers the basic concepts of ESD, proper precautionary measures required to avoid electronic damage to sensitive electronic components, proper handling techniques and use of personal grounding devices, and how to control ESD by working in ESD protected workstations and ESD protected work areas.

 

Course Objectives:

This course is created with the intention to introduce individuals involved in the assembly, reapair and testing of electrical components to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD).

 

Learning objectives:

After completion of this course:

 

- You have a basic knowledge of ESD, to a level appropriate to your job function

- You are aware of special handling procedures

- You have knowledge of ESD protective equipment and items

- You know how to identify sensitive devices (ESDS)

- You are aware of the limits of ESD protection measures

- You are aware of safety issues related to ESD operations

 

 

Regulatory requirement compliance:

This course is developed with NEN-EN-IEC 61340-5 section 1 and 2 as reference.

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Course Duration:

The course programme shall consist of one day and starts at 9.00 till 17.00. Additional breaks may be taken as needed. The course programme will be as follows:

 

09.00 – 10.30 Start Part 1

10.30 – 10.45 Coffee Break

10.45 – 12.00 Start Part 2

12.00 – 12.45 Lunch Break (30 to 45 minutes depending on the local needs)

12.45 – 14.30 Continue Module 3

14.30 – 14.45 Coffee Break

14.45 – 16.00 Start Module 4

16.00 - 17.00 Part 5 Examination

We will provide all the required resources and equipment that is needed for this course.

Hardware/Software requirements and Browser information

 

Hardware requirements:

We recommend to bring a laptop or tablet with WiFi connection. During the course, we will visit several websites and at the end of the course you will perform an online examination.

 

Software requirements:

No additional software requirements are applicable.

 

Browser information:

A reliable computer or tablet with Wifi internet connection and internet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Firefox) are required.

 

 

Instructor information

 

Instructor credentials:

For this course we use multiple instructors. All have a solid background in ESD prevention programs. All instructors involved have each over 10 years of relevant experience and are recognized as “Subject Matter Expert”. They will be able to draw upon their wealth of experience to explain details on ESD prevention, via actual case studies related to actual process improvement projects.

Assessment and Grading

 

Testing procedure:

Students will perform an online examination with Multiple-choice questions. A laptop or tabled is with WiFi internet connection is needed to complete this examination. 

 

Grading procedure:

This examination needs to be passed with a minimum pass rate of 75% in order to receive a certificate of course completion. 

 

 

 

Assignments and Participation

 

Assignments and Projects:

Demonstation of ESDS handling activities, based on real-time situations.

 

Class Participation:

Students are expected to communicate with instructor as a learning resource and actively participate in discussions. 

 

 

Course Ground Rules

 

Participation is required, expected to communicate with other students in team projects, learn how to navigate in the learning environment system, keep abreast of course announcements, use the student e-mail address opposed to a personal e-mail address. Address technical problems immediately and observe course netiquette at all times.

  • Select your wordings in the e-mail carefully. Use of emoticons can help to include the correct emotion in the message.
  • Use standard fonts
  • Do not send large attachments
  • Special formatting such as centring, audio messaging, tables, html, etc. should be avoided as much as possible.
  • Respect the privacy of other students or class members

 

Discussion Groups:

  • Review the discussion threads thoroughly before entering the discussion.
  • Try to maintain threads by using the reply button, instead of starting a new topic
  • Do not make insulting or inflammatory statements to other members of the discussion group. Be respectful of other's ideas
  • Be patient and read the comments of other group members thoroughly before entering your remarks
  • Be cooperative with group leaders in completing assigned tasks
  • Be positive and constructive in group discussions
  • Respond in timely manner

 

Chat:

  • Introduce yourself in the chat session
  • Be polite. Choose words carefully. Do not use derogatory statements.
  • Be concise in responding in the chat session
  • Be prepared to open the chat session at the schedules time
